As your patient’s primary medical professional, it’s important for us at Northern Bariatrics to work in partnership with you to ensure a positive long-term outcome. Successful, permanent weight loss requires ongoing lifestyle changes and we recognise the significant role that a patient’s GP has to play.
Is your patient suitable for bariatric surgery?
When you refer your patient to Northern Bariatrics they will undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation to ensure the patient is an appropriate candidate for bariatric surgery.
Northern Bariatrics uses the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners guidelines for bariatric surgery.
- With a BMI greater than 40
- With a BMI greater than 35 and one or more obesity-related illness
- Who have tried non-operative weight loss solutions without long-term success
- In certain circumstances, patients with lower BMI may be candidates.
